I am a well-published kids/teen author as well as a NYC guide since 1991. I'm experienced with custom and general tours BUT I have a specialized focus on student and family groups of all ages. I have a wide breadth of experience breaking through the noise in an entertaining, informative way. [I've worked in radio, advertising, improv comedy, summer camps]. As a frequent visiting author I know how to hold their attention. I regularly present books, writing, and trivia in schools across the country. (www.MarkShulman.info) I have a strong working knowledge of what makes NYC intereresting & entertaining, as a father, author, and guide. I can arrange to tie in books, reading, or writing if that suits your group. I give general bus tours, private van tours (up to 7), walking tours (Harlem is a favorite) and presentations of the entire group, at restaurants, hotels, etc. I can work with tour leaders to create specialized tours for visiting groups. I am a veteran traveler, a father of two, and we travel as a family in our summers all over the world. I know how to keep people interested. My tours are a fun learning experience for any age. Teachers, chaperones and parents have fun, too!
My student tours are entertaining and informative. I combine a knowledge of teens, NYC, books, and fun. I work with schools to develop a sort of curriculum that brings together the best elements of an engaging author visit and a tour. There's a lot of knowledge that gets passed along under the radar. I believe everyone comes on their vacation to be generally informed but fully engaged. They want stories to go with the photos, and trophy experiences they will remember long after they return home.
My walking tours can be customized. I am often asked to give walking tours of Harlem and can adapt them to the needs of visitors.
I have a van and can create a custom tour for up to seven visitors.
